New Britain mayor criticized over photo posted to Instagram – WFSB 3 Connecticut
A supervisor told her she had not breached hospital policy or violated the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. “I was told I was being fired for being insensitive,” she said. Duke explained that the picture was not even hers. She had reposted it from a doctors Instagram. The doctor, who also works at NYPH, was not reprimanded, according to Duke. Duke says she did not do anything wrong. “If you hung around nurses station and heard the way we talk about injuries, life and death you might get the wrong impression but its just a coping mechanism, she said. Now I check my posts so no one gets offended or thinks I am a cold-hearted person. Duke, whose story was part of the ABC docuseries NY Med, comes from a long line of nurses. My mom is a nurse.
Others don’t have a problem with the photo. “She wasn’t working so she can do whatever she wants,” said David Muglin. Renata Murglin said she thought it looked nice and that “she deserves to have a good time.” Just last week, Stewart was caught using some inappropriate language on Facebook, where she said “can’t expletive’ trust anyone” which was later changed to “who in this world can you trust.” “She knows everyone is looking at her page,” said Tirado, who added that her language should be more appropriate. “She’s supposed to be a role model.” Stewart said she was apologetic for the post and admits it was a way of venting. “It doesn’t make it right, I corrected it immediately. I was frustrated and, you know what, at times this job can be incredibly frustrating,” Stewart said. She said she plans to be more careful on social media, and said she will continue to keep her Instagram photo up on her page. “Perhaps I should be more aware of who my personal friends on Facebook and Instagram are. However I still stand by the fact that I’m working really hard day in and day out to make New Britain a better place live work and raise a family,” Stewart added.
